PIKOM PC Fair at Pesada Johor Bahru

The fair was held at the same usual place - JICC (Pesada) (N1°27.690' E103°45.670').The crowd as usual....

This round I can see many LCD TV Manufacturer participated like Samsung, Panasonic & others....The booth which selling GPS (Global Positioning System) also increase! And yes, there were in the price war!

Garmin Nuvi 205 & 205W are the popular models where most of them promote it. The price are from MYR590.00 to MYR1,250.00. Others than Garmin, many China brand also available...

Booths where selling backpack also increase, even my friend which own a computer shop also selling 'Backpack' now.... Everyone fight for surviving....!

My purpose here was to get a notebook computer for my brother in-law, so I did not stay too long because of the huge crowd!

At the right of the main hall, there were all the Telco heavy promoting their 3G & Broadband services! The Green Packet (P1) booth had the most customer (at that moment) maybe because of the 2 pretty models! :)
And also many Bank promoting their Credit Card which I always ignore!

After I settled the notebook computer, we went to the KFC behind the Conventional Centre for a drink and it's so pack with peoples!! It took me about 30 minutes for me to queue to the counter!

Anyway, PIKOM PC Fair is the Computer Fair everyone waiting for. And so far it's the biggest Computer Fair for the moment at Johor Bahru.

PIKOM PC Fair 19th-21th December 2008, Johor Bahru

The event was held at Persada Johor (Johor International Convention Center).
I visited the Fair on Saturday (20th Dec). The area was really packed of peoples because there was another event (Motor Show 2008) running at the same time. It's took me almost 45 minutes to get a parking lot which is 500 meter away from Persada Johor. Both site of the road was full of cars parking along and it's make the traffic worst at that time! But, that's the atmosphere everyone Love to see....crowded!

It's a good bargain and also it's a price war everytime. Peoples willing to hold their money and spend it during the PC Fair, me too! But when I step in to the hall, I know I cannot do my shopping as normal. There were thousand of visitors squeeze inside the hall like in a sardine can! Haha!

I manage to meet my friend and told him the items I need, then just walk around for 10 minutes and escape from the crowded place....

The prices I remember :-

1) 2GB Thumb Drive - MYR15.00
2) 4GB Thumb Drive - MYR23.00
3) 160GB Hard Disk Drive - MYR165.00
4) 3G USB Modem - MYR380.00
5) Canon Mono Laser Printer - MYR199.00
6) Garmin Nuvi 200W - MYR899.00
7) China made Garmin imitation - MYR499.00 (Running on Garmin Mobile XT)

I noticed all the major brands Sub-notebook computers were display everywhere in the hall. And beside the main hall, there were war between the 3G and Wireless Broadband Telco....Celcom, Maxis & P1.

After the fair, I walked down the Lower Ground floor for the Motor Show 2008. But it was actually a Motor Sales, not show! Disappointed! Proton, Hyundai, Toyota....promoting their car.....

Take a break at the coffee shop opposite Persada Johor, then....back home.

PIKOM PC Fair II 2008, Johor Bahru

The 2nd PC Fair organized by PIKOM was held at the same place - Persada Johor (Johor International Convention Center) on 2nd & 3rd August, 2008.

We visited there around 2pm. The crowd as usual, PACKED!!

This time I saw the demand of the GPS in the PC Fair. There about 5-6 booths promoting the GPS devices.....And I only remember that the Garmin Nuvi 200 was selling at MYR888.00 and MYR868.00.


Price war as usual, I was attracted by the price of LCD monitor - 22' LCD Monitor cost only MYR780.00.
Recently, I noticed that the fair doesn't only computers & accessories....but, the LCD TV (consumer products), CCTV cameras & Digital cameras also took part in the fair.


We spotted some new products in the fair too! Like Mini Solar Charger for all 5V devices.....selling at MYR138.00 & MYR198.00.(I doubt the reliability.....)

MP5?? Huh? New product?.....hmm....not really, they named it because the device be able to play the real media format only.....

Linux Ubuntu Operating System!! The ONLY computer in the fair!!

This was the first time where digital cameras accessories also participated in the fair!

And also the LOVELY Promoter of the booth...

And.....when I walked pass this HP printer booth, she just smile at me!

Beside the main hall, there were the War between the there major Internet Services Provider....TMNET, CELCOM & MAXIS.



But most of the promoters are having limited knowledge about 3G......

Computer Fair 2008 at Landmark Mall, Johor Bahru

Visited Landmark Mall (N1°27.900' E103°45.589') (JB town) on Saturday for the Computer Fair, March 2008.
Carpark was full when we reached there around 3pm. So we have park our car about 300 meters away from the Mall.

Basically it's just a price war about this computer fair. We (me, 9W2KG & 9W2TSK) bought 2GB Kingston Micro SD card for MYR39.00 come with SD & Mini SD adapter. The Toshiba 2GB Micro SD selling at MYR37.00 without any adapter.
4GB Kingston Thumb drive : MYR48.00
And I noticed that WD 250GB Hard Disk Drive selling for MYR198.00. 22" LCD Monitor selling less than MYR900.00, while the 19" models selling at MYR689.00.

Most of the booths owner are from the shops in the same building....

I attracted this MPV parking in front of the mall and decide to find out what's going on......

Surprised me! It's another booth which is promoting Maxis Broadband and PC.com magazine! Look at the 42" LCD monitor at the back of the MPV! They provide online registration.

PC Fair III 2007, Johor Bahru

As I promised, me & my friend visited the PC Fair III 2007 at Johor International Convention Center this afternoon.

The place was crowded and very few parking left at the multi storey car park (as usual). The car parking gave very attractive rate compare with Thursday I visited, MYR4.00 per entry or per day.

While we walked in to the main entrance, you cannot find a space in any single corner. So crowded and pack of peoples!!

I noticed that, in the fair this time…..you can see some new products (unlikes previously, only price war). And also this time, not only computer related products are exhibits here….but even you can see SONY LCD TV, Energizer battery??! (I’m not kidding!) Banks promote credit cards (everywhere!), camera booths, backpacks, mobile phone telcos :- Maxis & Celcom promoting their 3G data packages and GPS devices – Garmin & others brands, and they claim the maps loaded in the devices are MalSingmaps release November 2007??!!

(If any MSM members reading this now, do you think what I’m thinks??)

Accessories are as usual……prices war……

I only can remember some offer by the booths, inkjet printer as low as MYR80.00. Monochrome Laser jet as low as MYR199.00. Notebook computer – less than MYR2000.00. 2GB SD Card (memory card) as low as MYR53.00. Garmin Nuvi 200 – MYR1,299.00.

My friend bought Kingston 2GB DDR2 RAM for PC, cost MYR126.00. Then he entitled for Lucky Draw at Kingston booth. Wish we can draw the Pen Drive, but….in the end, we only got 2 plastic folders.

Used notebook computers, good bargains.

I found this little wonder, impressive! MYR3,499.00

We spend about almost 3 hours in the fair but we don’t really visit all the booths, because it’s too crowded in the Convention Center.
