1926 Heritage Hotel at Burmah Road, Penang

The 1926 Heritage Hotel is located at Burmah Road, Penang. (N5°25.437' E100°19.234')
On the 3rd day of Chinese New Year (28th JAN 2009, our fourth day in Penang), we decided to stay one night at Penang to save time avoid traveling from Butterworth because Lau came for 2 days 1 night holiday with his family...and we became their tour guide.

We are so fortunate to find this hotel which is not too far from the Georgetown (The Capital of Penang).

We did our room booking from the Booking.com, and the rate was MYR150.00 per day for Deluxe room with 2 breakfast.

But when we check-in to the Hotel, I'm surprised that the Walk-in rate only MYR126.00! Which is much cheaper than the 'Special Internet Booking Rate'! Luckily, there was another MYR40.00 surcharge for Holiday Peak Season, so it come to MYR166.00. I think we save a little....haha!

The Reception of the 1926 Heritage Hotel

The Lobby area, with free Wifi services.

After the Lobby area, we need to walk to the back of the main building, which is where all the room located. I'm like this small garden before the room block...

There are only 2 storey antique building and with the total of 96 rooms. Our room was at the first floor.

The corridor to the hotel rooms.

I found out the room was clean enough and the 1.5 horse powerful Air-Conditional was cold enough for the room. It's spacious enough for us...

It comes with one Queen bed.

The bathroom.

Every deluxe room has a private balcony. I love the antique design of the doors and windows!

Beside this, the hotel also has a swimming pool located at the right behind the room block. The Jacuzzi is at the corner of the big pool. I'm impressed!

Hotel Guest parking is located at the both side of the room block.

The lane direct you from the main road to the car parking area.

I really love this antique design of the Hotel.

Once home to British colonial officers and local administrators, this wonderful 1920’s property has been completely refurbished to offer a comfortable, modern hotel, whilst maintaining most of its Anglo-Malay architectural essence.

Typical of the colonial era, it is uniquely dressed with beautiful Victorian windows and private balconies, which contribute to a memorable atmosphere and luxurious comfort and charm. Around the hotel you will find little lanes with rustic cafès where you can have a cuppa (or three) and some local fare.

Located in the heart of Penang, this heritage building is strategically located to all major shopping centres, tourist sites, the financial district and corporate towers. The hotel is also very near Georgetown City and 15 kilometres from the Penang International Airport. (Source from Booking.com)

The Breakfast was serve at the small coffee house at the right of the Hotel Lobby.

My buffet breakfast on the next morning. Just wondering that the coupon stated 'American Breakfast'?! Maybe we woke up too late! :)

Overall, the charges of the hotel room is justified with the environment. I will strongly recommend my friend to this hotel if the room is available.

Auto City of Juru - Butterworth

CRW_4977.jpg Heard about this Famous place quite some time ago, tonight I insist wanna visit it after our dinner at Long House Seafood Restaurant.

I'm surprised when we reached the entrance of the Auto City of Juru - Butterworth (N5°20.294' E100°25.789'). There was traffic jam! Because our last visit was the Reunion Dinner and the roads were empty! But now....jam everywhere!

Cars are everywhere....

You can find most of the Major car dealer here...especially like Porsche, BMW and others...

We drove around on the happening place and parked our car beside the Auto City 'Factory Outlet'. (The only available parking area)

Auto City Factory Outlet...Nice lighting. It was the miniature of Penang Bridge.

Most of crowds are teenage and young peoples. After all it's design for it. I snap some photos surrounding and we stuck at this SOHO Pub & Bistro (N5°20.235' E100°25.749'). According to my brother, it is the same owner of the SOHO Pub of Penang.

SOHO Pub and Bistro

The design was nice from the surface, but internally.....seems like the English atmosphere was not there at all! It's totally different from the Penang SOHO Pub....maybe the customers here are different?! Maybe...it's already cross the Penang Straits...

We ordered a jug of Beer....and it's cost MYR32.00. It's very much cheaper than JB Pub & Bistro! I think JB prices should follow it! :)

Beer must not escape from the atmosphere of Chinese New Year Culture! Agree??

There is another crowded Bistro opposite SOHO is 'Tao', the place was FULL! Might due to the '2 pieces band (guy & girl)' singing some popular song....Young peoples love it, but not me! Unless they sing "Hotel California"! .....Yeah, I know I'm old.... :)

There are many restaurants around that we are familiar with....like : -

Honestly, this is not the place I'm favorite with...(after visit), unless you are looking for cars. It's just a concept...and there's not really special compare with other happening places in Penang. If you looking for cheap beer (like MYR32.00 per jug), then you make a right choice! Otherwise, there's nothing attracted us...

We had a walk at the Factory Outlet after the Beer....and found out it's only about two (2) shops there...

One of the Fashion shop at the Auto City Factory Outlet.

I treated this as just one of my journey...I won't be back in short period unless I can't afford the beer price at Penang!! (It's not much different after all...) Haha!

Hopefully it will be better in the coming future!

Long House Seafood Restaurant, Batu Kawan - Butterworth

Long House Seafood Restaurant (N5°16.298' E100°27.115')

We went to this restaurant for dinner on the second day (27th Jan 2009) of CNY. I had been tested the Seafood at Bukit Tambun, therefore this time we decided to try out the Seafood at 'Batu Kawan' (at the entrance to Bukit Tambun town).

We reached the restaurant quite early, there's not many customer around.
My brother did the order quickly, and they serve all the foods we ordered in about 15 minutes! I'm impressed!

Our order :-
* Black Pepper Crab
* Bamboo prawn
* Fried Squid
* Lala clams
* Fried noodle

The Black Pepper Crab

The waiter also serve us with this 'Stick'??! My goodness!

That's really confuse us! We didn't order this 'Stick'?! I took 5 minutes to figure out, what is this for....End up, we realize that 'Stick' is for us to crack the crab shell!
We noticed other table use it to hammer the crab. Oh! That's make another rhythm within the restaurant. You might feel noisy, but I felt that's fun! Haha!

I try it...but it seems the crab 'flew' everywhere! Maybe because of my poor skill of using that 'Stick'! :)

The foods were average for me. If you are curious about the 'Stick', you can try this restaurant...otherwise, please go to Bukit Tambun Seafood Restaurant. Because the seafood are better than this Long House Seafood Restaurant.

The total damage : MYR98.00 included drinks (For 4 adults and one child).
Quite reasonable price during the Chinese New Year peak season.

The restaurant was pack of peoples when we finish our dinner.

The Nine Emperor Gods Temple (九皇大帝) at Jalan Raja Uda, Butterworth

The Nine Emperor Gods Temple (N5°26.415' E100°23.235')

This is the local culture. During the Eve of the Chinese New Year, everyone (all ages) within this area (Buddhism or Taoism) will start praying from one temple to another after 12am till morning. (I'm not sure about other state in Malaysia, but in Penang state - Yes.) This year I decided to follow my brother to tour around the Temples at Butterworth.

We were having rest at my brother house after the dinner, kids were playing the fireworks surrounding. But this year was different from previous year! I can't feel the New Year Atmosphere! Because of the Local Authorities Restriction for burning the Fire Cracker, I hardly hear any of them! Not even the Beautiful Fireworks!

My brother went out around 2.30am. The streets of Butterworth was busy even it's already 3am in the morning. This is the Sleepless Night for everyone at Butterworth and Penang!

Among all the temples we went, this the biggest and most beautiful temple at Butterworth - The Nine (9) Emperor Gods Temple (correct me if I'm wrong) at Jalan Raja Uda. The temple was just completed on 2008.

There is a vehicle parking space in front of the Temple...

The main entrance.

The walls surrounded the temple are having this beautiful handicraft from China, which are also donated by the peoples.

Every pillars are the alomost same and look like this...(the picture below)

Before you entering the main hall, there are 4 guards at the both side...

Even the Doors are guarded...

The main Deites of the Temple - The Nine Emperor Gods

As I walked to the second hall, I found this!

At the second hall, most of the design are somehow related to Dragon...

The roof of the second hall.

The pillar and the door design

We spent almost 30 minutes over this beautiful temple....

The side view of the Temple.

The Stone craft Lion. It's very common at most of the Temple

Below are the pictures of other temple we visited...

The Temple at Sungai Puyu, Butterworth.

We finished around 5.00am. Wah! I'm so tired and exhuasted!

This is the Chinese culture during the Chinese New Year, they practice since many century ago....

Blossom Seafood Steamboat at Auto City, Butterworth

Blossom Seafood Steamboat Restaurant (N5°20.435' E100°25.767')
We were having our Reunion Dinner at this restaurant. It's located at the happening area called Auto City of Juru - Butterworth.

The restaurant is located at the first floor of the building.

The charges were quite reasonable, MYR23.90 per head, children under 12 years old - Free. (This is the price for Chinese New Year period, normal day will be MYR18.80 per head)
But I'm so surprised that, the restaurant was so empty! I can't even feel the crowd?! Must be related to the economy again...or...the foods are bad!

The waiting area...it makes me feel like queuing....but...

The crowd at 9.00pm...

After impatiently squeezing the foods into my mouth, I felt the foods here were not that bad, some are surprisingly good!

Cute Bear fish ball!

Fresh crabs and shrimp...but not live seafood...

They provide two type of soup - Herbal and Tomyam. This are very common nowadays at Malaysia, even at Johor Bahru.

Various foods available, my daughter love the unlimited supply of Ice-cream!
We took 3 rounds for the foods....unbelieveable!

The cozy ambience of the area is comfort, foods are above average, and price also affordable. It's a nice place for family or friends gathering.

* The Restaurant had shutdown since 2010.
